Results of Annual Al-Awda San Diego Chapter Board Elections

Al-Awda San Diego is pleased to report the successful conclusion of its annual chapter board elections which took place on November 14, 2010 at the Al-Awda Center. The meeting began with a review of the chapter's work over the last year. The chapter's treasurer then submitted a financial report of the chapter's activities for the year. A copy of the independent CPA-reviewed financial statement which covers the activities of the entire national Al-Awda organization for 2009 was then made available. This was followed by a discussion of some of the priorities for the following year. The meeting resolved to advance and work, over the next year, on the Palestinian children's rights campaign, the California divestment petition and ballot, the refugee support program, upcoming events including the Ninth Annual International Al-Awda Convention, which is scheduled to be held in Garden Grove, California on the April 29, 2011 week-end.

The nomination and election process then took place.

The following are the results :

Two chapter coordinators and representatives to the National Coordinating Committee of Al-Awda, The Palestine Right to Return Coalition were elected. They are: Aida Kildani and Dr. Zahi Damuni.

Additionally, the following board members were elected:

Fundraising - Leena Barakat
Media - Mona Kadah
SDSU Students Rep - Loraine Rihan
UCSD Students Rep - TBD
Outreach and Social Activities - Ramzi El-Khater
Library - Nasser Barakat
Website - Ramzi El-Khater and Zahi Damuni

Al-Awda San Diego thanks last year's chapter board for their dedication and hard work which led to significant growth in our chapter's membership and participation over the past year. We wish the new board success in its work and in meeting the continuing challenges ahead.
