Al-Nakba (Arabic for Catastrophe) refers to the mass expulsion and dispossession of the Palestinian people from their own homeland which began in 1948. More than 450 Palestinian villages were destroyed and around three-quarters of a million Palestinians were driven from their homes and lands by the Zionist colonization program, beginning a process that continues unabated to this day.
